Letter to New Zealand

Letter: Hello my dear friends and family of New Zealand who have been affected by the earthquake, I am very sorry to hear about the natural disaster that has hit most of your homes. I hope that you all know that our thoughts and prayers are with you. You should know that food supplies are on their way. I give my condolences to those who lost someone and I pray that whoever got injured will get better soon.

For those who didn’t know the earthquake was a 7.8 magnitude earthquake! It has so far been the third biggest earthquake recorded in New Zealand history. After the quake there were over eight hundred aftershocks, about 21 aftershocks every hour! There has been landslides, cracked and broken roads and sadly some people thought it cool to go looting at the same time as the earthquake hit. It says on the news that there is a possibility that there could be a Tsunami that might hit the top of the South Island in Kaikoura.

After the disaster there were still problems occurring, for example; aftershocks, looting and possibly Tsunami’s. Some families could have lost a family member. The aftershocks as you already know were over 800. Basically two earthquakes! The tsunami is likely to happen but we don’t know yet. Some adults who need to get to work can’t because of the uneven roads and most kids would have missed out on their NCEA tests because of the quake. Lots of schools and houses have been destroyed.

So to the people of Kaikoura I really am sorry to hear about what happened. I know how big the earthquake was not only by the news telling me it was a 7.8 earthquake but the night it hit it came all the way up to where I live and I felt a little quake in Auckland. So those who are leaving have a safe trip and for those who are staying be safe and I hope that your houses and businesses get fixed.

A Bumpy Road to Rio

Are you excited about the 2016 Rio Olympic games coming up very soon. I am, but Before the olympics start lets go behind the scenes and catch a glimpse of some of the stuff the Brazilians are up to? But also we shall be looking at how it compares to Pt England School, and we see if the games should be held in New Zealand for 2020? Whats your opinion on the subject? Comment below and tell me if New Zealand shoud hold the next Olympics in 2020!

The Chicken Leg Effect???

You might be wondering why it's called the chicken leg effect. Well, I won't tell you, you'll have to find that part out for yourself. But I will give you a clue. It has something to do with space and the cause of being in space for a period of time. So hopefully you'll read the presentation and comment below the answer and I'll see who actually looked at the article and who just asked a friend or guesed. Good luck!

Leaving for an exciting holiday

It was a cold Sunday evening. The car was already packed and all we were waiting for were the keys still hanging up on the hook and the owners of them. Shannon(mum) and Anthony(dad) were rushing through the house sorting stuff out when finally the door burst open and our Mother came out, and close behind here our father, the reason they took long was because they each had little snacks to help us get to our destination without a rumbly stomach. So mum and dad unhooked the keys, step by step got into the car, put the slightly rusted key into the keyhole, turned it and the van successfully turned on, we were on our way.

But as my family and I were leaving home we realised that we hadn’t had dinner so while Anthony went to his workshop with two of my brothers, my mother, brother and I went to go and get some dinner. The choices were out of Wendy’s, Wendy’s or Wendy’s. So after we picked up the food from Wendy’s we drove to my father’s workshop, ate the food, and then left to travel by car for 5 hours down to a little town known as Ohakune. You must be wondering why are we going to Ohakune? Because 30 minutes away lives the great Mt Ruapehu. We are going away for 2 weeks on a snowboarding holiday!

Winter Learning Journey Bonus 1 Week 1

Bonus: During the ancient Olympic Games, men were allowed to compete in the events but women were not. In fact, women were often forbidden from even watching the games. In your opinion, is this a fair rule? Why or why not? On your blog please tell us what you think about this interesting rule.

It goes both ways. No, because women should be able to see their loved ones play and fight and win. Not stand outside the stadium and wait. Back then women weren't treated with respect and women should always be treated with respect. But also yes because men used to run fight and ride horses naked so it would be very inapropriate if ladies were in a stadium with a lot of naked men.

Winter learning Journey Activity 2 Week 1

Activity 2:  In the ancient Olympic Games the winner of each event was called the Olympionic. Instead of a gold medal, the winner had a palm leaf placed in their hands and a crown placed on their head to show that they were the winner. Arguably one of the most famous Olympionics was a man named ‘Milo of Kroton’ (see picture below). Use Google to research ‘Milo of Kroton’ and post three interesting facts about him on your blog.

Three fast facts about Milo of Kroton:

1. Milo of Kroton was a Wrestler

2. Milo of Kroton was a six time olympic victor

3. Milo of Kroton came from a Greek city of Croton in southern Italy

Activity 1: Let’s imagine that you were alive 2792 years ago and invited to compete in the first ever ancient Olympic Games. Which of these events: running, wrestling, boxing, pankration, horse racing and pentathlon would you compete in? Click on the name of the sport and it will take you to a site that tells you about the sport. On your blog tell us which sport you would choose and why you chose it.

If I was alive 2792 years ago and I was invited to take part in the first ever Olympic games in Olympia, Greece, I would have to pick one sport to play out of 6. The choices were running, wrestling, boxing, pankration, horse racing, and pentathlon, and out of all of these choices I’d have to choose Horse racing. The reason being, Chariot racing seems like the most fun and life threatening sport to play.

This maths presentation is about word problems. Pay special attention to the last three slides. They were the hardest questions.

Character Descriptions

as i see it(Immersion Assembly)

At the start of every term, PT England School have an Immersion Assembly. This is when our term inquiry is presented by the teachers. This term’s inquiry is, “as i see it”. It’s all about art. Different teams are doing different things that have to do with the topic. For example, team 1 are are doing favorite things. You might ask yourself, what has my favorite things got to do with art? Well, team one shall be first, explaining what there favorite things are, and then, either painting, pasteling, or drawing their favorite things. Like maybe someone likes cadbury milk chocolate. That’s what that child will have to draw.

Out of all the teams in the school I’d have to say that team 4 won my attention. They were all about comics and they might even be allowed to watch movies based on the comics, then create their own. So, to introduce their item, team four showed us a movie with comic features. So in a comic there are villains and heroes. The evil villain is known only by the name of Bear Baxendine! He is one of the most feared villains in all of the land. He is a master at stealing chromebooks, and sadly Bobby Jon’s chromebook was the favorite. So as the evil bear was escaping, two heroes stopped him. These two randoms were known as Amateur Heroes.

They charged at Bear Baxendine, but they underestimated him. As they came at him, Bear Baxendine landed a huge left hook right to the first heroes face. Then he did a roundhouse kick straight into the second heroes stomach. They were both taken down. Bear Baxendine tied them together around a pole. The Amateur heroes had failed. Now it was all up to, Wondering Woman, Bat Guy and their team leader, Team Leader America. They were the Teacher Vengers!

Bear Baxendine thought he had this fight. But what really happened is Team Leader America landed the first hit with his shield right to the face. Then Wondering Woman punches the bear in the face, and finally, Bat Guy kicks the bear in the stomach to finish him off. “Time for jail”, said Bat Guy. They set the captives free, then Bat Guy was showing off his muscles like he always does. “Wow Bat guy, Your muscles are so big!” said one of the Amateur Heroes. Then Wondering Woman barged in, “Ahem”.

After that movie I was feeling jealous that team four got to do comics and I didn’t. My favorite dressed teacher was Mr Sommerville. He was Team Leader America, and he looked like Captain America. One thing that I’m going to take away from this Assembly is that I feel confident in what this term’s all about.
